Traveling while developing games can be a blast, especially when you take a 2 week break from game development and hit the New Zealand trails, hunting down Lord of the Rings sights!
While we were in New Zealand, we had the incredible opportunity to speak to local game developers at an impromptu Game Developers of Wellington meetup!
We feel that too many game developer talks and articles are focused on the successes of game developers, so we took the opportunity to talk about some of our “failures” – more specifically, our failed prototypes, why we decided to let those go, and how we picked ourselves up and moved onto our next project.
We covered many of the highlights from this talk in our previous DevDiary blog post “Throwing It All Out the Window & Getting a Reboot.”
It was great to have such a turn out (25-ish developers), especially for a presentation with such short notice (only a few days)!
Thanks again to the Game Developers of Wellington for hosting us!
If you’re a game developer and are interested in speaking in Wellington, we learned that local game developers have pulled together their own funds specifically to bring in more international speakers!
